Specialist in neurosurgery Full professor of neurosurgery Scientific advisor in permanent position
Born in Osijek. Promoted to the title of Doctor of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zagreb. In 1991, he passed the specialist exam in neurosurgery. In the period 1993 – 1994, he attended professional training at the Clinic for Neurosurgery of the Pitié University Hospital in Paris, France. In 1996, he obtained the academic degree of Master of Science in the field of medicine. In 2002, he was recognized with the professional title of primarius. In 2004, he defended his doctoral dissertation under the mentorship of prof. Ph.D. Josip Paladin and thereby obtained the academic degree of Doctor of Science in the field of biomedicine and healthcare.
He is an invited lecturer (guest professor) at a number of foreign universities (University of Tuzla, BiH; University of Tennessee, Memphis, TN, USA; Harvard University, Boston, MA, USA). He is the author of 287 professional and scientific papers and congress reports published in the literature, of which 66 papers were published in journals indexed in Web of Science –WoS; Scopus; Madeline. He was the mentor of 4 defended doctoral dissertations and several diploma theses of medical students, as well as a researcher on scientific research projects of the European Community and the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia. He is a member of the Croatian Medical Association, the Croatian Medical Chamber and the World and European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS, EANS). He is a member of the Neurotraumatology Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (NTC WFNS) and the Board of Directors of the Society of Southeastern European Neurosurgeons (SeENS), as well as the Board of Directors of the Croatian Neurosurgical Society. He is the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Journal of Applied Health Sciences” published by the Zagreb University of Health.
In the period 2013-2017 Mr. was the first vice-president of the Croatian Neurosurgical Society of the Croatian Medical Association and a delegate to the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) and the European Neurosurgical Association (EANS) as a representative of the Croatian Neurosurgical Society. He was a member of the Administrative Council and president of the Professional Council of the Osijek Clinical Hospital Center. In the period 2002-2007. he was the Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, and from 2013-2016 Mr. was the head of the Clinic for Neurosurgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Osijek, KBC Osijek.
In 2017, he was elected to the scientific-teaching position of full professor at the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery of the Faculty of Medicine and at the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health, University of Osijek, and in 2018, he was elected to the scientific-teaching position of full-time professor at the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In 2020, he obtained the scientific title of scientific adviser in a permanent position in the scientific field of medicine and healthcare. Since 2019, he has been teaching at the University of Health in Zagreb. In the period from 2017-2022. he was employed at the Neurosurgery Clinic of KBC “Sestre milosrdnice” Zagreb as a neurosurgery specialist. His special areas of professional and scientific interest are neurotraumatology, cerebrovascular surgery, neurosurgical oncology and intervertebral disc diseases. He lives and works in Zagreb.
