Zlatko Kolić, MD, PhD, Asst. Prof. of Neurosurgery

A physician with extensive clinical experience and scientific contributions, he began his medical education at the School of Medicine, University of Rijeka, where he graduated in 1992. After completing his studies, he completed his internship at the Health Center in Senj, and spent his first professional years in the Emergency Medical Tract of the Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka, where he worked as a physician in general and emergency medicine until 1995.

That same year marked the beginning of his professional journey in the field of neurosurgery when he transferred to the Department of Neurosurgery at the Rijeka Clinical Hospital Center. During his six-year specialization, he advanced his skills in neurosurgery, and from 2002 to 2015, he worked as a specialist neurosurgeon, actively participating in clinical work, surgical procedures, and professional and scientific projects. Alongside his clinical engagement, he continued his scientific training – in 1998, he earned the academic degree of Master of Science in general surgery, and in 2011, he earned his Doctor of Science (PhD) degree.

A significant contribution to his professional formation was the “Fondazione Mario Roberto Mazzeo” study scholarship, thanks to which he spent six months in 2002 at the Neurosurgery Clinic of Policlinico “Umberto I” at the prestigious Roman university “La Sapienza”. There, he further advanced his knowledge and skills in the field of spinal surgery, which would become one of his core professional interests.

Alongside his continuous clinical practice, he regularly participates in domestic and international professional training. Thus, in 1998 he completed the “22nd Course for Microsurgery of Vessels and Nerves” in Munich, and in 1999 the basic neuroendoscopy course in Mainz. Over the years, he has participated in several specialized training courses, including spinal surgery courses in Rome, Maribor, Berlin, Marbella, and Zagreb, perfecting his skills particularly in the field of minimally invasive techniques.

His professional engagement is also reflected in his active participation in the work of numerous professional associations. He is a member of the Executive Committee of SeENS, the Southeastern European Neurosurgical Society, and Vice President of the Croatian Spinal Surgery Society. Furthermore, he is an active member of the Croatian Neurosurgical Society, Croatian Vertebrological Society, Croatian Medical Chamber, Croatian Medical Association, as well as the professional societies of forensic experts and medico-legal experts. He also participates in the work of the Medical Commission of the Rijeka Sports Association.

As a co-author of numerous scientific and professional papers, he continuously contributes to the advancement of the profession, and through his knowledge and experience, confirms his dedication to high standards of medical practice, education, and a multidisciplinary approach to treatment.
