Prof. Antonija Krstačić, MD, PhD, is a specialist in neurology and subspecialist in neuromuscular diseases

Prof. Antonija Krstačić, MD, PhD, is a specialist in neurology and subspecialist in neuromuscular diseases. She has authored and co-authored about fifty scientific and professional publications. She is a member of the Croatian Medical Chamber, the Croatian Medical Association, the Croatian Neurological Society, the Croatian Society for Neuromuscular Diseases and Clinical Electromyoneurography, and the European Neurological Academy.

After finishing her studies at the Faculty of Medicine, she passed the state exam in 2000 in Zagreb. She completed her neurology specialization at the Clinic for Neurology at KBC “Rebro” Zagreb and passed the specialist exam in 2008. In 2007, she defended her master’s thesis “The Relationship Between Risk Factors and Ischemic Stroke” at the Faculty of Science at the University of Zagreb (supervised by Prof. Josipa Kern, “Andrija Štampar” School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb). Since 2008, she has been working as a neurology specialist in the Laboratory for Electromyoneurographic Diagnosis and Treatment at the Clinic for Traumatology, KBC “Sestre milosrdnice”. In 2011, she defended her doctoral dissertation “Heart Rate Variability and Predictive Models of Autonomic Dysfunction after Cervical Spinal Cord Injury” at the Faculty of Science at the University of Zagreb (supervised by Prof. Gojko Buljat, Clinic for Traumatology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb). In 2018, she became a subspecialist in neuromuscular diseases in the field of neurology. She has been a primary doctor since April 2018. Since 2020, she has been working as the Head of the Department of Neurology at the Clinic for Traumatology, KBC “Sestre milosrdnice”.

University engagements

She was appointed as an associate professor at the Department of Neurology of the Faculty of Medicine in Osijek in 2016. In 2019, she was appointed as an associate professor at the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health in Osijek at the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. In 2017, she was appointed as a senior research associate in the field of Biomedicine and Health, scientific area of Clinical Medical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine in Osijek at the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. She has mentored about ten final papers and two diploma theses.

Authorship of a book

She is the author and co-author of five textbooks. She edited the book “Surgical Medical Sciences Diagnosis and Treatment” published by Livre de Lyon in 2021. She is a co-author of several book chapters, including Nonlinear Dynamics in Ischemic Heart Disease, and Evaluation of cardiac autonomic balance after acute cervical spinal cord injury and “Cardiovascular complications after brain injury” in “Neurocardiology”.

In 2018, she co-authored a chapter on dental treatment of elderly cardiovascular patients and a chapter on sports cardiology in the book “Surgical Medical Sciences Diagnosis and Treatment”.

Since May 2018, she has been a member of the focus group “Contemporary and new treatment of musculosceletal conditions in Bio-thermal Centres” Association, Croatian American Professionals, “ACAP Medical Tourism Task Force Retreat,” Washington, DC.

She is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Bioanthropology in 2021 and the editorial board of “Current Research in Surgery Medical Sciences” since 2019. She also served as a member of the organizing committee of the International Hippocrates Congress on Medical and Health Sciences in Istanbul 2019, Ankara 2020, Antalya 2020 online, 2021 Turska on line.

She participates as a reviewer for Acta Clinica Croatica, Journal of Neuroimaging in Psychiatry and Neurology, and Cureus Journal of Medical Science.

She actively participates in European and domestic congresses and symposiums with oral or poster presentations.
