Preparation for MRI examination.

MRI examination is a safe and painless examination during which we use a large magnet, radio waves, and a computer to obtain detailed images of the inside of the body.

When you come for the examination, the medical technician may ask you a few questions. After that, our MRI technologist will explain the procedure to you.

It’s best to wear comfortable clothing without metal buttons or zippers. If necessary, we will provide you with a gown for the examination.

You will need to remove objects containing metal such as glasses, jewelry, belts, and hair clips.

The scan will not affect braces and dental fillings.

During the examination, you will lie on a moving table that slides into a tunnel that is open on both sides. After you lie down on the table, the technologist will leave the room, but will still be able to see, hear and talk to you. A call bell is also provided in case a technologist is needed.

Depending on the type of test, the MR examination can last between 20 - 90 minutes.

You will have to lie very still and you will hear loud banging, knocking, buzzing and drumming. Of course you can wear headphones or earplugs, and our technologist may even play music during the scan.

We may give you MR contrast during the test, so that the doctor can see certain areas of the body in more detail. The contrast leaves the body in the urine, usually within a few hours, and disappears completely after 24 hours.
