Prof.dr.sc. Iris Zavoreo, dr.med.

Throughout her long-standing career, she has focused her interests on the treatment and diagnosis of epilepsy, acute and chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, placing particular emphasis on primary and secondary prevention of these disorders with a special focus on the role of physical activity.

She graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of Zagreb in 1999, obtaining the title of Doctor of Medicine. Since September 1999, she has been employed as a research assistant at the Clinic of Neurology at Sisters of Charity Hospital as part of the project “Investigation of cerebral vasoreactivity with stress tests” and “Three-dimensional ultrasound and functional TCD in the study of cerebral circulation” under the mentorship of Academician Vida Demarin.

She successfully completed postgraduate studies in the field of Biomedicine at the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, earning the title of Master of Science in December 2004, and in October 2008, she obtained the title of Doctor of Science by defending her doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. In February 2008, she passed the specialist examination and became a specialist in neurology. Since 1999, she has been involved in the teaching process at the School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, and School of Kinesiology at the University of Zagreb. In 2011, she was appointed as a research associate and was granted the academic title of Assistant Professor at the School of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb. In March 2016, she obtained the title of Senior Research Associate, and in December 2016, she was appointed as an Associate Professor at the School of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb.

During 2019, she achieved the status of subspecialist in epileptology, and subsequently in 2020, she became a subspecialist in neuroimmunology. In 2021, she was awarded the title of Scientific Advisor, and later in 2022, she earned the academic title of Full Professor.

She is the head of the Reference Center for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute and Chronic Pain of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia. Appointed by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia in 2016 as a member of the working group for the development and promotion of multidisciplinary collaboration to promote general and oral health. In January 2017, she became the Head of the Department for Epilepsy, Neuromuscular Diseases, and Clinical Electrophysiology at the Clinic of Neurology at Sisters of Charity Hospital.

She is a member of domestic and international professional societies. As an author and co-author, she has presented papers at numerous domestic and international professional conferences in the form of posters and invited lectures. She has proven to be a successful mentor in the preparation of graduate and doctoral theses, as well as in the production of scientific and professional books and university textbooks.
