Guenther C. Feigl (born in Graz, Austria) is an Austrian neurosurgeon. Feigl is an internationally renowned expert in minimally invasive cranial and spinal neurosurgery. His expertise includes skull base surgery, neurooncology, and surgeries for complex degenerative spinal diseases, including scoliosis correction procedures. He is certified by the German neurosurgical society (DGNC) for neurosurgical oncology and by the German Spine Society (DWG) with a master certificate. In the area of skull base surgery, he is certified by the German Skull Base Society (DGSB) and specializes in surgeries for gliomas, minimally invasive endoscopy-assisted microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia (facial pain), facial hemispasm (involuntary facial twitching), as well as surgeries for acoustic neuromas (tumors of the vestibular nerves), pineal gland tumors, and skull base meningiomas. His specialization also covers the treatment of pituitary adenomas, spinal cord tumors and metastases, as well as pediatric neurosurgery.

Education
Guenther C. Feigl began his medical education in the USA. After studying in Dallas, Houston, and Graz and conducting brain tumor research at the Neuroscience Institute at Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, he focused on his thesis on radiosurgery in the treatment of pituitary tumors using the gamma-knife method. He completed his neurosurgical training in Germany, training at the International Neuroscience Institute (INI) in Hannover with renowned neurosurgeon Madjid Samii. He also trained with Marcos Tatagiba in Tübingen, where he finished his residency in neurosurgery. Feigl earned his Ph.D. from Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen.

Career
Guenther C. Feigl obtained his Ph.D. from Eberhard Karl University in Tübingen and was appointed as an associate professor of neurosurgery. As the Head of Skull Base Surgery at Katharinenhospital in Stuttgart, he specialized in minimally invasive neurosurgery and neuroendoscopy.

Currently, he serves as the chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Klinikum Bamberg. In addition to his role as chairman, Feigl is the Director of both the Brain Tumor Center Bamberg and the Skull Base Center Bamberg, both of which he founded. He is also the Medical Director of the outpatient clinic Neuronetz Bamberg. Recognized for his expertise in minimally invasive skull base surgery and neurooncology, Guenther C. Feigl became an affiliate faculty member at the Houston Methodist Research Institute (HMRI) Neurosciences Research Program in March 2018 and Adjunct Professor of Neurosurgery at the Houston Methodist Hospital (IAM) in December 2019. In March 2023, he received an honorary professorship from the Zdravstveno veleučiliŔte Zagreb (ZVU).

Treatment priorities:

  • Brain tumors (meningiomas, gliomas, metastases)
  • Pineal cysts
  • Skull base surgery (meningiomas, acoustic neuromas, trigeminal neuralgia, facial hemispasm)
  • Pituitary adenoma
  • Degenerative spinal diseases (disc herniation, spinal canal stenosis, scoliosis correction)
  • Radiosurgery
  • Second opinion
